Christi Lee

“You never really know something until you teach it to someone else.”

John C. Maxwell

Howdy, my name is Christi, and I am a data scientist. I have a bachelor’s degree in statistics and a minor in Spanish. I have worked in the aerospace & aviation industry for the past three years, and I am currently working in the federal & defense space helping customers realize the value from complex analytical strategies and projects. My interests are in statistics and mathematics, particularly their applications to data science, machine learning and AI.

While working for my current job, I have discovered that data science isn’t just building models. There are many other important parts that don’t get enough attention. Particularly, concepts that matter to our models, concepts that could improve their quality, accuracy and usefulness. Personally, I wish there was more emphasis on these foundations as much as there is on learning fancy algorithms and basic statistics.

I created The Data Gem as a means for me to help others learn these concepts. I do not claim to know absolutely everything that is necessary for a data scientist to know. So I view this as a way for me to learn and to challenge myself to develop new skills and grow as a data scientist. In other words, I am teaching in order to learn.

Cassidy Lee

Hello, my name is Cassidy, and I am a data scientist. I have a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a minor in viola performance. I am currently working on my master’s in data science from Georgia Tech. I have an interest in pure math, particularly in topology and abstract algebra. I have a passion for supporting women in STEM and providing visibility opportunities for women in mathematics.

We have a passion for helping others perceive math in a different way than is traditionally taught in school. One of our goals is to support women in STEM to help them knock out their phobia of mathematics and other important data science concepts so they can become the much needed researchers and leaders of our future.
